USMS Swimming Saves Lives Foundation
The USMS Swimming Saves Lives Foundation (SSL) focuses its resources on the vital lifesaving and lifetime benefits of swimming. With a desire to focus these resources locally and give back to the community, the ILMSA membership approved establishing an ILMSA SSL Advisory Committee with the mission to:
Seek and plan SSL programs within ILMSA
Solicit funds for ILMSA designated programs
Recruit ILMSA volunteers
The first ILMSA-SSL program was successfully completed last August, where we co-sponsored a youth Learn to Swim Program organized by the ULCC Boys and Girls Club of Chicago. As a result, 80 inner city Chicago youth participated in and achieved Red Cross swim instruction levels ranging from 1 though 4. Of course the primary benefit was teaching Club members how to be safe and have fun in water recreationally.
Building on the success of our first program, the Advisory Committee seeks other learn to swim programs and looks to expand into other health and wellness projects that support the lifelong benefits of swimming.
