- Twenty-nine time FINA World Record holder
- Survivor of a heart attack, coronary bypass surgery, pacemaker placement and aortic aneurysm repair in 1998
- USMS record breaker in all of the backstroke events for the 85-89 age group in 2000
- Pool dedication receipiant, Dr. Edward J. Shea Natatorium, on the campus of Southern Illinois University
